While the Lepisto-to-Phoenix trade was a pretty good move considering Phoenix usually finishes at the bottom of the standings, it still is a big loss for the organization. Lepisto is a solid defenceman who would have challenged for a roster spot this season and deserves one too.
The Finn put up good numbers this past season and is worthy of NHL minutes. But McPhee’s logic here appears to be refilling Hershey with newer and younger prospects than Lepisto. Sami is 24 years old and is still an AHLer. Guess that means he wasn’t in the future plans of the organization.
Fans shouldn’t be upset he’s gone to the Desert Dogs. There are better defencemen out there. Hopefully this year’s 2nd round draft pick Dmitri Orlov, could fill the role in Hershey of puck-moving defenceman.
